Just signed back up...

I just paid for a Monthly Pass… I told hubby that I planned on going back to WW after Jan. 1 and he asked me to make him go, too.

I weighed myself on the bathroom scale and realized that it has been well over a year since I’ve weighed this much. CRAP. But on the bright side, I honestly don’t think that my scale is terribly accurate, and I don’t know how close it is to the official WI weights that I have saved in my WW profile. I’ll use this month of Monthly Pass to get back into things, then I think I’ll cancel the thing and try to go on my own… or at the very least, I’ll cancel hubby’s. Yep, I signed him up for one, too. And he had a fit about how much it costs! (”They’re going to charge me $9 a week to tell me to eat healthier?!?”)

I do know that I’m not going to start counting until I do an “official” WI @ WW early next week. I’d really like to go on Tuesday, but I don’t know if they’ll be open… need to make a phone call.

I've moved my older posts here from another site and haven't decided if I'm going to keep that blog active or not. I love the community over there, though- check it out!

Using my WPA!

It’s been a couple of days since I’ve checked in here… it hasn’t been the best couple of days for me- busy, hot, and I’m trying to prepare for our vacation next week. Food has not been a priority. I remembered this afternoon, halfway through inhaling McDonald’s, that “Food is NOT an emergency”, but at that point I didn’t so much care. I was starving and hadn’t had time to get anything to eat for lunch… and it was 3:30.

I took my son to get his hair cut tonight, we always go to Coldstone afterwards as a reward. For the longest time, getting his hair cut was a major ordeal that included screaming, yelling, and crying. Ice cream worked as a great bribe, and now it’s more than a year later and he’s still getting ice cream afterwards. The whole idea of him getting a haircut has only been “ok” with him for the last couple of months, so I’m nowhere near ready to try to change the incentive. He gets really excited, and I’m willing! (I LOVE ice cream…) I’ve been getting a “light” version and getting that in the Kids’ size, but I’m a sucker for the mix-ins. I suppose that having the mix-ins on lower-point ice cream is better than the same mix-ins on ice cream that’s twice the points. I think, though, that I’ll plan ahead next time and have a better idea what I should order.

Yum, cupcakes :)

So I really did ok tonight, considering that I LOVE cupcakes and that is what was served at the bday party. I was thrilled to find that instead of just hotdogs and hamburgers, they’d grilled several chicken breasts, too! Sam’s Club sells custom-made cupcakes rather cheap, and they’re really good… so I used more points on those than I probably should have. I also might be counting them higher than I should, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Today’s points:
latte- 2
1/2 C. Fiber One- .5
Wendy’s grilled chicken sandwich, 1/2 the bun- 5.5
grilled chicken with BBQ sauce @ bday party- 5
2.5 cupcakes- 8

Today is Day 5 and I have 15 Flex Points remaining for the Sunday and Monday!

Uh, hello? WW? BE MORE SPECIFIC!!!

Fiber One bar- 2
Boca Burger w/English Muffin- 2
Fiber One bar- 2
pts so far: 9

The points above are where I’d started my post for yesterday. I typed this about 3:30 yesterday afternoon, then didn’t snack anymore because I was holding out for what I figured would be a higher-point dinner with my kids. We’d planned on going to Target and a mall- so they could play at the play area- and I KNEW we’d have to go to Auntie Anne’s for pretzel sticks…

For some reason, we just didn’t get out of the house… we all kept finding things to do and it was much later than I’d planned on before we actually left. We started by going to Target to shop for birthday presents for the niece and nephew. This took F-O-R-E-V-E-R. My son kept finding lots of great things for himself, but nothing for his cousin (the girl- the boy was easy for him!). I would suggest something and get shot down immediately. He would say “Hey, mom- look at this!” and I’d say “We’re looking for Kyah, remember? Do you think she would like that?” This went on FOREVER. Finally I found some Dora roller skates that he thought she would like.

Anyway, when we were about done at Target, DS starts telling me that he’s hungry. (Because he CANNOT go to Target without getting something to eat- anyone else have kids like this?) In his defense, we hadn’t had dinner yet. And it was getting late, because the present-picking had taken SO long. Checked my watch…. it was after their bedtime! Crap. Dinner from Target it would be.

Our Target has both a Starbucks and a Pizza Hut- the Pizza Hut is a part of their “Food Avenue” or whatever it’s called now- the snack shop area. Both of my kids got kids’ meals with hot dogs, so they were set. I wanted a pretzel, but they were out (it was late, remember? Poor gal was trying to clean up so she could close soon!). I ordered the PH breadsticks, which I LOVE. Now here’s where I get frustrated. For the better part of my WW journey, I counted each breadstick at 1 point: in the Dining Out Companion, it says that “One Serving” is 3 points… at Target, they come 3 breadsticks to an order, so each breadstick is 1 point, right?!? Then a few months ago, I realized that 1 point probably wasn’t enough, because really- they’re SO good! I went to PH’s website and I think it says there that one serving of breadsticks is actually one breadstick. SO WHY CAN’T WW BE MORE SPECIFIC AND SAY 1 BREADSTICK=1 POINT instead of saying 1 SERVING=1 POINT?!?!? Not. Happy. They are specific just two lines down that 1 piece of Hot Wings and 1 piece of Mild Wings are each 1 point…

Long story short, I had 9 points of breadsticks (3 pcs). Which would have been fine, but then I lost all control. The kids’ meals come with chips or applesauce, my son wanted chips and I figured I’d get animal crackers for my daughter. When we got over to the rack where we could choose, though, the Cheetos started yelling at me. I caved. I know how high they are in points, and I actually waited until we were halfway home before I opened the bag… but they were gone by the time I got into the house. Oh well, more flex points gone. Later last night I figured as long as I was using flex points, I might as well use some more, so I had some frozen yogurt for about 3 more points.

3 PH breadsticks- 9
Cheetos- 12
Frozen yogurt- 3
Total Points Used- 33
Points Remaining- -8
Total Weekly Flex Points used- 16

We didn’t take our walk yesterday, but I did some resistance training. Do you think that counts for APs? I didn’t work up a sweat, but I wanted to get working on my yucky flabby arms. Last summer I did a program called Extreme Bodyshaping, 3 days/week you do resistace training with what are essentially big rubber bands; the other 3 days/week you do cardio kickboxing. I pulled out my bands (I’d bought a whole set) and the book (to remind myself of the resistance exercises) and spent about 30-40 minutes yesterday. I plan to do this at least every other day, if not daily. Can I/should I count this time as APs? I’m not really moving my body, but I am working the muscles.

I’m determined to do better on points today. My niece and nephew’s b-day party is this afternoon, so I know I’ll have to watch what I eat there. (I’m planning on high points there, though.) I’ve started my day with my usual latte and instead of my vitatop I subbed a 1/2 cup of dry Fiber One (1/2 point). I usually eat breakfast in the car or at work, and when I’m home with the kids I tend to have higher point breakfasts and eat cereal with them- at about 5 points/bowl. So I think I’m already off to a good start, slightly down from where I usually am this time of day.

Oh, yeah!

I forgot about lunch yesterday!!! I had 2 slices of Godfather’s pizza, which added 14 points to my total. So I guess I was a bit over, but I feel SO much better knowing that I didn’t eat only 10 points or so for the whole day!

Tonight we went on a longer walk than usual and I think I earned 3 APs- again, I work HARD when I walk… sometimes I think it would be easier just to jog, but I’m pushing a Graco double stroller and don’t have a jogging stroller.

My day has been pretty good so far, but right now I just want to eat grease and junk… I think I’ll dig into the cheesesticks a bit to try to ease that craving, then go for something healthier if I’m still hungry.

latte- 2
vitatop- 1
carrots and dip- 2
bite of cookie- 1
2 laughing cow wedges- 2
low-fat triscuts- 4
cheesesticks- 6
1/2 banana- 1
Total Points Used so far: 19
Total APs Earned: 3

7/13 edit: added 14 pts in cheesesticks… used 33 pts, but earned 3 APs, so only over by 5 flexies!

Points left over

Last night after looking at what I’d eaten for the day- and admitting it to you- I went and had a 1-pt English Muffin and a Flame-Grilled Boca burger… I LOVE the Flame-Grilled ones! Thanks for your advice on that, you were so right on! But I still ended the day with either 11 or 14 points for the day (not sure how many cookies I ate!). (9 or 11 points remaining)

Does this ever happen to you? Some days I’ll be starving and feel like double my points allowance isn’t even enough, some days I’m not hungry at all and just don’t come close to using all of my points. A big part of my weight gain was because I like to snack on tasty foods and sweets- I wasn’t eating because I was hungry, but because I wanted more of that taste. (Rach talks about the same kind of thing: http://blogs.weightwatchen.com/rach) I hate the idea of eating when I’m not hungry, just to fufill my points requirement- if my body needs the fat/calories, won’t my body encourage me to eat?

TOTALLY OFF-PLAN, but within range!

Yesterday I was WAY off plan, but managed to stay within my points range (25)!!
latte- 2
2 vitatops- 2
chocolate chip cookies- 12 (might have been 9 points, but just in case…)
pretzel- 7
cheese- 2
total pts used: 25!

Today was also not on plan, but points were ok:
latte: 2
vitatop: 1
laughing cow wedge: 1
low-fat triscuts: 2
more cookies: 3 (maybe 6?)
Really not hungry… know I should eat something… will think about it and come back to this later!

I’m trying to lose some of these extra pounds that I gained back when I stopped counting points, but I had a TERRIBLE Monday and Tuesday… then the babysitter made chocolate chip cookies and that really improved my mood- but my points went all to hell!

I don’t want to go back to WW until I know I’m within the 2 pounds over my goal weight, so even though I’ll have to pay when I go back, I’ll only have to pay once for having been gone- not for being gone, then again the next week for being over goal. I weighed myself last Wednesday and again today, and I’ve LOST 4.2 POUNDS THIS WEEK!!!!! I’m well on my way! I’m just 6 pounds over goal, and I think I’ll be able to weigh in within acceptable range by the beginning of August.

We’re going on vacation the last week of July, and while I won’t be as careful with points, I will watch what I eat, and I’ll be exercising a ton more than usual- I never gain (but tend to lose) weight on this trip. I’m really pretty sure that I can lose at least 4 pounds in the next 2.5 or 3 weeks before I get back over to WW.

Dinner Disaster

Yeah. I had an awful day yesterday- just nothing seemed to go right. I did pretty well and avoided stress-eating until about dinnertime, then I lost control. I started by drinking a bottle of Bacardi Strawberry (malt beverage, I think it’s about 5 pts) while dinner was cooking… dinner wasn’t low in points, either- a Schwan’s frozen mix of Shrimp and Broccoli Alfredo (yum!). I did watch my serving size, but it was probably close to 8 points, I didn’t calculate the points at all. Hubby suggested wine and opened a bottle, I drank at least half of the bottle, maybe more. Then he served frozen yogurt- 3 or 4 more points. In total, I’m guessing dinner probably ran me 18-24 points.

I don’t drink very often, especially don’t drink nearly as much as I did last night. Thank goodness… my body was not happy about it, and I lost it all about 2 hours after dinner. I don’t have any idea how to count points for my dinner disaster that didn’t stay with me for very long, so I’m not going to even try. Today starts a new week for me anyway, so I won’t worry about it!

latte- 2
vitatop- 1
carrots & dip- 2
2 mini Reece’s cups- 2
1.5 English muffins- 1.5
taco meat- 7
Points used before dinner disaster: 15.5

Anniversary

Today was our 7th anniversary- it was a nice day, but we didn’t do anything special. We’ve decided to wait and go out later this week, as we’re big Harry Potter fans and the new movie comes out this week. It’s going to be at the IMAX theatre, so we’re going to go see it there- I think it’ll be really neat at the IMAX, but I plan to sit near the back because I hear that if you sit there, you’re less likely to get motion sick.

My dad and brother took the four of us out for dinner tonight, and hubby made mozzerella cheesesticks this afternoon, so I knew I’d be over on points. I made a point to exercise more today to earn the AP points that I knew I’d need so today wouldn’t be too terrible. I almost never eat my APs, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do it today. This morning I popped in an old MTV’s The Grind workout tape and DS tried to do the workout with me. It was pretty cute to watch, but he got bored after a while. This afternoon (after the cheesesticks!) I strapped DD into the Kelty kid-carrier backpack and headed out for a walk. I walked really as fast as I could without trotting for almost an hour- I’d checked the AP slider before I left to see what I needed to do to earn 4 or 5 APs. I came home drenched in sweat and headed for the shower, but I did earn a total of 6 APs today! (YAY!)

Today’s menu wasn’t too bad. I checked dwlz.com and according to her, my chicken tonight was 8 points! I probably would have estimated 6, but I’ll take her word for it.

latte- 2
1 C Fiber One- 2
4 oz skim milk- 1
5 cheesesticks- 7
some Bloomin’ Onion- 6
sangria- 5
couple bites of DD’s mac & cheese- 2
grilled chicken- 8
steamed veggies- 1

Busy Day, Good Day

Today was a good day. I had to work this morning and that went pretty well. This afternoon we were supposed to meet one of my son’s friends at a wading pool at a park near our house. I pushed the double stroller and really booked because we got a late start… we have lots of hills in the neighborhood and by the time we got to the park- less than 10 minutes later- I was really sweating and my calves hurt. Turned out that the wading pool isn’t open on the weekends so the kids decided to stay and play anyway. We stayed at the park for 2 hours in the 95 degree heat- I’m SO glad I brought tons of water! I try to take them for a good walk every night- walk at a brisk pace to an area park, let them play, then walk briskly back. I figure I earn about 2 activity points for it and they’re burning energy before bed… but today I decided that our afternoon walk would have to suffice.

Tonight we were invited to a birthday party BBQ for one of my hubby’s friends. I didn’t think I was going to go, because hubby had to work and I didn’t want to take the kids by myself. We ended up going anyway and had a great time! I made some smarter food choices tonight, including sharing my cake with my daughter. (I think I had 2 bites!)

I was a bit surprised tonight when I added up my points for the day. I thought I’d have a couple left over for a Dreamsicle or something, but no such luck. Oh well.

Boca or Gardenburgers?

Which do you prefer, Boca burgers or Gardenburgers? What variety do you like?

I’ve just finished a box of Boca’s Grilled Veggie burgers and they were pretty good. I haven’t tried any other variety, or the Gardenburgers, but I hear that they are even better- what do you think?
I love that I can have a “hamburger” for 1 point, and it’s such a fast, easy meal. I pop my english muffin (1 point) into the toaster and the burger into the microwave… two minutes later I’m already eating! I add ketchup to mine, but I think I’d add more veggies if I would take the time to think about it while I’m building the sandwich.

I had another day of not being very hungry. I know that I way over-ate earlier this week and I think that all those calories are catching up to me; and I’m actually THINKING about what I’m doing before just stuffing junk into my mouth. I ate all of my flex points on Tuesday and Wednesday (days 1 and 2 of my week), so I’m needing to be careful not to go overboard… but the last two days I’ve been way under. It’ll all balance out in the end.

latte- 3
vitatop- 1
4 sugar cookies- 6
1 pc. Laffy Taffy (parade candy!)- 1
1 Schwan’s Orange Dream bar- 2
English Muffin- 1
ketchup- 1
Boca burger- 1
Total Points Used: 16
Points Remaining: 9

Also drank about 72 oz water and earned 2 Activity Points.

It's HOT out!

I know that it’s about 115 in Vegas, but the mid-90’s that we have seem pretty hot to me… glad I’m not there! I usually drink 2 or 3 32oz bottles of water every day, but I’ve been drinking more this week, just trying to rehydrate from the heat. Good grief, am I peeing alot- but I think it’s helping with the hunger control, too.

This morning I made my latte and grabbed my water bottle and a Vitatop out of the deep-freeze. I tossed the chocolatey goodness (still wrapped in cellophane!) onto the seat next to me in the car and planned on warming it up once I got to work. Drank the coffee on the way to work, then remembered to grab the water bottle and fill up the rest of the way when I got into the bldg. I had a busy morning and was thinking about lunch when I got into the car… and remembered that I’d forgotten all about my Deep Chocolate Vitatop! OMIGOD was that a yummy surprise! It had been sitting in the 90 degree heat, in the sun, in my car all morning and was nice and warm- like I’d just taken it out of the microwave! The chocolate chips were all melty and gooey and it just hit the spot! I totally didn’t mean to miss breakfast and have such a small lunch, but I was satisfied and happy, so why worry?

I got home and the babysitter had made sugar cookies with my kids. Apparently, my son wanted a cookie (and we didn’t have any) so they made some! I’ll have to be careful not to eat too many, as we all know that I try not to keep sweets in the house (because I EAT THEM ALL!).

Pretty good, points-wise!

I’m trying to get a few things done before bed, so this will be short tonight. I wasn’t very hungry today- must have been everything I’ve eaten the last couple of days!

latte- 3
Vitatop- 1
tiny piece of cake @ work- 1
carrots & veggie dip- 3
tortilla with lettuce, chicken, and veggie dip- 6
kids’ leftover french fries- 3
FiberOne bar- 2
Total points used today: 19
Points remaining: 6

Please don’t tell me that this isn’t a healthy day or that I need to be using all of my points. I know all that. I’m readjusting to the program, as I’ve been off for so long… I’m just glad that I wasn’t very hungry today after seeing how many points I’ve been eating lately!

4th of July

Our town has a huge parade and mega-celebration for the 4th- it’s really a big deal here, so of course we have a tradition. We meet my SIL and her family to watch the parade together, then afterwards we eat carnival foods for lunch, then the kids get to ride the carnival rides… then on to Grandma’s house for swimming in her pool. (Then they can rest before dinner and fireworks!)

Our deal is that one family will stake out the parade-watching spot (some people set up chairs before 7am to save their places!), and the other family brings Krispy Kreme for everyone. Last year I’m sure I had at least 5 yummy donuts over the course of the morning!

Not TOO terrible so far today… I had a feeling I’d overdo things with the Krispy Kreme so I didn’t buy as many to share as I bought last year. I didn’t hold myself to just one, but managed- over a 3 hour span- to only eat 2.5…. much better than last year. (12.5 points)

I didn’t make the best choice for lunch, but it certainly wasn’t the worst option, either. I opted for a gyro, as I almost never eat them. (I almost got a grilled chicken sandwich, but I eat those all the time- I wanted something I can’t make for myself.) I brought lots of water for everyone, so I didn’t have to worry about my beverage. (10 pts)

Dinner:
Salmon- 4 pts
pasta salad- 4 pts
peas- 1 pt

I went over to the New Moms board on the WW site to find out about the BFing issue. Turns out it is 2 points per session, and DD is nursing 2-3 sessions/day, so I’m going to split the difference and call it 5 points.

So my guess for my points total today is 31.5- not as bad as yesterday, really not terrible at all- I can live with having used 6.5 flex points! (Since I’m counting those BF points and I’ve gained a little back I have 25 daily points.)

Today's Tracking

Until I figure out how to make a chart, I’m going to have to do the best I can. I was running late this morning and didn’t have time to make my latte at home (so I spent more points by buying it) and I also forgot to grab my carrots and water that I usually take to work with me.

I tried to stay low on points because I know that tomorrow will be a tough day. I first did WW back when you could still bank points, and I still kind of have that mentality. I did ok today, except that I’m afraid that I overdid it a bit at dinner. I haven’t added up my points yet, though so I’ll figure it out as I type…

Caribou Coffee’s Northern Lite Cooler (large)- 5 pts
Vitamuffin top- 1 pt
1/2 cup Fiber One- 0 pts
1/4 cup skim milk- 1 pt
some blooming onion- 4 pts
iceberg lettuce wedge with tomatoes- 0 pts
6? blue cheese crumbles- 2
about 2 tbsp blue cheese dressing- 3 pts
steamed veggies- 1 pt
about 5 oz sirloin steak- 10 pts?
16 oz margarita- 20 pts
vitamuffin- 1

UGH- 47 points! egads! I knew I shouldn’t do the drink, but it sounded SO good! I guess it’s a start, though- writing the points down and keeping track. I could have/should have had the chicken instead of the steak, but all I saw on the menu were smothered in sauces and I didn’t want to special order anything- my hubby hates it when I have special requests! I only had about half of my meat and brought the rest home, I also made sure to dip my fork in the salad dressing rather than pour it on the lettuce. I’m not thrilled at that points total at all, but I’m not mad, either- I just know that I’ll do better tomorrow.

I did earn a couple of APs tonight, but certainly not enough to counteract the steak and the margarita…

Still not sure how many points I should be taking for breastfeeding… I’m figuring about 5 maybe?

Good luck on the 4th, everyone! I know I’ll need it

Here it goes!

Ok, so here I am again. I have not done well the last few months- I haven’t tracked my points, I haven’t weighed in, and I have gained. Thank goodness I haven’t gained it all back, but it’s enough to frustrate me. My new clothes that I bought this spring are on the tight side (and some that started a bit tight I can’t even wear!), but my old clothes are still really big. I’m a lifetimer, so I only have to WI once each month, but I’ve missed May and June. I went in April and was .4 over goal… I’d been a few pounds under goal on my last WI in March.

My goals for now are clear: first, I’d like to get back to goal; then I’d like to fit into ALL of the new things I’ve bought. I don’t really have a number in mind, which I think is good, but it felt SO nice to be able to wear these clothes and be comfortable in them.

I originally joined WW in September of ‘06 to lose the weight I’d gained while pregnant… didn’t lose it all after my first was born, then had more to lose after the second. People that haven’t seen me since before #1 don’t realize that I’ve gained or lost anything, but people that haven’t seen me much since last fall/winter have really noticed a difference! (YAY!!!)

My kids are 1 and 4, and keep me busy. I was lucky enough to join WW dd was very little, and got to count the extra 10 points for being a BFing mom. I’m a little concerned about counting my points now, because she still nurses at night (once or twice each night), and sometimes during the day- usually 2-3 good feedings each 24 hour period. I know that I can’t count all 10 points, but do I get to count any? PLEASE help me if you have any advice on this! Thanks!

I think that’s all for an opening post, but I know I need to be sure to post often to keep myself accountable. I’ll be adding a chart with my daily points, too.

I really enjoy reading everyone elses’ blogs, Roni and the rest of you have really helped me with my motivation- thanks in advance to all reading mine!
